Mar Baselios Dental College (MBDC), Kothamangalam, founded in 2002, is the first dental college in Kerala that was started in the self-financing sector. The College is a minority institution managed by the Mar Baselios Medical Mission Trust. It is affiliated with the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS), Thrissur, and recognized by the Dental Council of India, New Delhi. The present eminence of the College makes it the most preferred college for the students aspiring for dental education.
The sprawling green campus of more than 7 acres is located at Thankalam, 2 km northwest of Kothamangalam Town, in the Ernakulam District, Kerala State, India. The nearest railway station is Aluva, 30 km west and the nearest airport is Cochin International Airport 30 km northwest of the College. The idyllic location of the campus enjoys the refreshing aura of the rural ambiance.
The College offers a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) programme with an annual intake of 60 and seven postgraduate programmes in different specializations –Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Prosthodontics, Oral Medicine and Radiology, Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Periodontics and Implantology, Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics.
It has its hospital at Kothamangalam – Mar Baselios Medical Mission Hospital-with 300 beds and two satellite centres in the neighborhood. There are two women’s hostels and one men’s hostel with modern amenities available on the campus.
The College has carved a sense of reliance and trustworthiness among the community nearby through conducting various community outreach programmes making them visit MBDC for their oral health needs. The higher number of patients visiting the College is a good opportunity for the UG and PG students for greater exposure and expertise.
True to its founding objectives, the College has built up a distinct reputation in terms of academic performance by conducting numerous skill development activities. The present reputation of the College is the result of the long vision and resolute commitment of the Management coupled with the unconditional cooperation and hard work of the Staff and Students. Above all, the intercession and blessings of the Patron Saint, Eldo Mar Baselios, are a major guiding force. The College takes pride in its past achievements and looks forward to realizing its aspirations for the future.
